Essential Things You Must Know About Roofing Warranties

Roof replacement is one of the most significant investments you will make in your home. Aside from color and style, you must choose roofing materials with comprehensive warranties. It is one way to protect your new roof against poor workmanship and product defects.

Here are essential things to know about roofing warranties.

What Are the Types of Roofing Warranties?

When replacing a roof, be sure your contractor offers workmanship and manufacturer warranties. Workmanship warranties cover labor costs for correcting installation mistakes. On the other hand, manufacturer warranties include coverage for defective materials.

Who Will Benefit From Them?

There should be a clause in the warranties that states who will benefit from them. Usually, the original owner of the property is covered. If the coverage is transferable, the next owner would be covered.

What Do Warranties Cover?

Your warranties should indicate what the company does and doesn’t cover. It should include requirements to keep their coverage valid, such as installation by a certified contractor. If a problem develops after the roof installation, this section should also have information on what needs to be done. Keep in mind that the length of coverage may vary depending on the component and feature.

What Do They Not Cover?

Roofing warranties do not cover all forms of roofing problems. For instance, storm damage and issues resulting from debris impact are usually not covered. It’s the same for incorrect installation, preparation mistakes and improper handling.

How Do Limited, Lifetime and Limited Lifetime Warranties Differ?

Homeowners often ask how limited, lifetime and limited lifetime warranties differ. All warranties are considered limited because they have restrictions or conditions. They could be limited by time, wear and tear, and excluded costs.

Lifetime warranties usually remain valid as long as the original purchaser owns the property. Moreover, a limited lifetime warranty might have limitations on time coverage. You can always ask your roofing contractor if you are unsure about the inclusions of your coverage.
